What is resolution?
This is a term used to describe the size of a digital image. Home printers use DPI (Dots per inch) to describe their resolution. These home printers use ink to create an image, at Fotopost we use light and chemicals on photo paper to create photos and so DPI is not a relevant term. We ask for the size of an image specified by resolution. That's how many pixels across and down that make up the image. Digital cameras use that method and multiply the two values to represent the image size in "Mega-Pixels". 640x480 is the smallest resloution we can use to make a 6x4" print.
The higher the resolution the better quality the final print will be.

How many pixels do I need?
Resolution is a measure of the number of pixels that make up a digital image. The higher the resolution, the higher the pixels. The more pixels you have, the better the photo quality. If you want to print your digital images, choose a large pixel setting on your digital camera. This setting will use up your memory card more quickly than a low pixel setting but it will give you a better quality printed photo.(A low pixel setting will let you put more images into your camera but you will end up with a grainy printed photo). 480 by 640 is the lowest recommended resolution for a 6x4 print.

How can I avoid my digital photos being cropped at Fotopost?
1. Crop them yourself using photo editing software, making sure the aspect ratio you crop them to, matches the paper size you choose, exactly.
2. Ask for a 6x4" "print to fit". This will give you a 5.3x4" photo printed on 6x4" paper, with white borders to the sides.
3. Ask for a 6x4.5" print size. Slightly bigger than usual but the same price.
